History of Yamaha

History of Logo                          In 1898, one year after the establishment of Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd., forerunner of today's Yamaha Corporation, the Company decided to use a tuning fork as the corporate mark, and a design featuring a "Chinese phoenix holding a tuning fork in its mouth" as the trademark. After undergoing a variety of changes paralleling the growth of the Company, the tuning fork mark and the Yamaha Logo was finally standardized. History of Brand Name                          The Yamaha brand trademark, YAMAHA, comes from the name of our founder Torakusu Yamaha who pioneered the production of Western musical instruments in Japan.

Brand Recognition

                          Since it beginnings in the 1950's, Yamaha has expanded significantly. It is now a famous motorcycle brand around the world that is known for both its powerful motorcycles and its involvement in competitive racing. Being one the most popular motorcycle brand, Yamaha don’t have any trouble in the marketing field. Their bikes are sold very easily. The biggest selling point for Yamaha is their durable engines and low cost high mileage bikes. Yamaha bikes are also more performance oriented while providing a mileage. All these promising features keep up the brand name.

Challenges faced by them

                          When we asked about challenges faced by them, he mentioned various things. At first, he said BS-VI transmission has been affecting their sales because consumers are anticipating for low prices and awaiting for the purchase of BS-VI vehicles which enters the market by April 2020.                           Another challenge faced by them is during the months of June, July, August due to the pressure which the parent population faces for paying the school fees. So, during these months there is low sales compared to other months. Some customers don’t buy vehicles during the month of Aadi (August) due to some religious belief.                           Also during the months of November and December, sales is relatively low. This is due to year end, during which consumers think that it is not the right time to buy the vehicle. The reason behind this, if they buy vehicle in December, it will be counted as one year and it lowers the resale value.    

Impact of Industrial Slowdown

                          When we asked about the industrial slowdown he said clearly it mostly affected car industries only not bikes because of Automobile slowdown they faced little dull sales during December 2019. It will be like this till March 2020.                           He pointed out that there is not much difference in sales of 2019 compared to 2018. He said sales remains the same as last year.                           He said the brand’s one of the most popular bikes, the R15 has won hearts all over the country yet the effect of auto industry slowdown can be felt all around the nation. Another big reason that has contributed to a decrease in the sale of Yamaha two-wheelers is the approaching deadline of the BS – VI emission.                           The new norm will come into effect from 1, April 2020 following which all vehicles should be BS – VI. Sales in 2019

                          The sales of Yamaha motors does not have difference as of the sales in 2018. Yamaha Motor India retailed a total of 47,918 units last month as against 69,097 units during the same month in 2018 with 30.7 per cent de-growth. The Japanese manufacturer endured a terrible month and was the second worst-hit brand in the top ten after Harley-Davidson that posted 33.7 per cent decline.                            Only two models registered more than 12,000 units for Yamaha in July 2019 and they are the Fascino and entry-level FZ. The scooter encountered 12,984 units as against 19,108 units during the corresponding month last year with 32 per cent decline while the FZ garnered 13,904 units.                            Compared to the same period twelve months ago when 17,146 units were sold, the FZ resulted in YoY drop of 19 per cent.                           Yamaha Company is one of the best automobile companies in our country. Its overall reputation among the customers is around 58% and with their own employees its 63% exact.                           Even though there are so many best and number one companies in our country, people always wanted to try something new. So regarding this mind set of the people we wanted to ask few questions about the reputation of the Yamaha showroom to where we went for industrial visit.                           This Yamaha showroom is located in Anna Nagar, in that same area there are many other automobile showrooms were there, so we asked like this “How would you manage to get customers and also maintain your reputation even though there are many other showrooms nearby?” and what the answered was that they don’t catch customers, they earn them by their unique performance.                           Their marketing strategy to attract customers is nothing but chang

Sales Strategy

                          Sun motors attract customers through their way of service to their customers. They also boost sales by means of discounts and offers for certain Motorcycles. Backing up the product or service they sell means more than just a warranty (although that is part of it).                           Customers carry around a fear that they are making the wrong decision or that they are getting cheated or could have got a better deal somewhere else. So this showroom backs-up product often. These are their strategies to attract customers.

Loans and Finance

                          Yamaha provides its customer with loan credit directly from the showroom making it easier for the customer. The finance department of the showroom receives money from the banks in advance and in return they have to submit the documents of sales within a period of time to the bank as a collateral for the loans provided by the bank to the showroom.                           The documents are submitted till the money provided by the bank runs out and then a new account is opened. This process repeats over and over again. Yamaha also provides loans at a reasonable interest rate as low as 5.5%

Internships

                          They are also hiring students for internship as per the time periods requested by them. But they seek permission from the manager based on their skills. They are hiring students for executive and marketing because in this sector marketing is more important than anything but financing requires more technical and banking knowledge. So it not possible for students to do that as they are fresh to such aspects.                            Hence they usually don’t welcome internships for students for loans and finance. They prefer students with good communication and fluency in English. They allow the students to interact directly with the customers.

Electric Vehicles

                          There is no sign of introduction of E-vehicles in Yamaha in the near future. They anticipate that it may take 10 years – 15 years for the electric vehicle to be successful in India. But their competitors like Revolt may induce them to introduce E-Vehicles soon.
